Excess Success
Excess
Success
by Caitlin
and Erin Stephens-North
Walking down the aisles,
Looking at all the crap,
Do I really need this?
Do I really have to spend this?
On THAT?
The store brand,
The leading brand,
Three hundred kinds of mouthwash,
Eyelash curlers,
Car fresheners,
Vibra-ribbed, fluorescent, ultra-sensitive, fruit-flavored condoms,
That's some elaborate packaging for a toothpick.
Look at them,
Rushing around,
So eager to rid themselves of the money in their hands,
Never thinking of their fellow man,
Have you ever been hunger sir?
DId you go to school ma'am?
Then maybe you don't need another gas-guzzling, air-polluting, all
leather interior luxury sedan.
But it's not your fault.
You're not to blame.
We're all just the same.
Sent to school to learn,
So tomorrow we can earn,
To what end?
To spend?
"Spending is your friend."
Instead of buying that luxury sedan,
Donate to Biodiesel for a Better Tomorrow,
We're taught success is having more,
Than the folks nextdoor,
But success isn't excess,
It's giving it all away.
